Haunted Harmonies
Scenic & Lighting Design - October 2024
What is it?
Haunted Harmonies premiered in the fall of 2024 as the first show of its kind at my school. It was a cabaret-style production featuring a variety of acts, elevated by high production value with sets, lighting, and themed costumes for each number. At the time, I was enrolled in chorus and was approached by the choral director to design both the lighting and the set. Each performer was given the chance to submit their ideas for how they wanted the lighting to look, and I combined those requests with the overall tone of each piece to create the design for the show. Scenic design, however, took a different path. The director originally envisioned a haunted ship theme, but with a budget of essentially nothing, I suggested pivoting to a haunted graveyard. While simple, our vision came to life in just a few hours through creative problem-solving and resourceful design. One of the highlights of the set was a small campfire at the front of that stage where performers would grabs mics for their performances.
